A Change of Perspective

And when the event, the big change in your life, is simply an insight—isn't that a strange thing? That absolutely nothing changes except that you see things differently and you're less fearful and less anxious and generally stronger as a result: isn't it amazing that a completely invisible thing in your head can feel realer than anything you've experienced before? You see things more clearly and you know that you're seeing them more clearly. And it comes to you that this is what it means to love life, this is all anybody who talks seriously about God is ever talking about. Moments like this.” Jonathan Franzen, The Corrections

I love this quote, it is so achingly simple in its perspective and profound in its reach. It reminds me of the four truths of the Nature of Mind: that it is too close to be recognised; too profound to fathom; too easy to believe; too wonderful to accommodate. We are preconditioned to thinking the journey to self realisation, the Heroe’s Journey, is an arduous and treacherous one. The toil, an unavoidable pre-condition to wisdom is worn like a badge of honour that signifies entry to the club. But what if it wasn’t like that. What if it really was a breezy as a carefree, hands in pocket, whistling in the wind walk in the park. What if that was all that was required: an insight; a change of perspective from which a greater understanding of our true nature can reveal itself. What if it really is too easy to believe. Wouldn’t that be a thing.
